Horlicks Milk Burfi is a quick and easy Indian milk fudge made with milk powder and flavored with Horlicks (a malted milk powder drink), which comes together in less than 5 to 6 minutes! When you are pressed for time or you need a special but quick dessert, this burfi is perfect!

With the upcoming Diwali (Festival of Lights in India) celebrations, and everybody pressed for time preparing for all the festivities, Horlicks Milk Burfi is the perfect fudge which can be ready in just 5 minutes. Who does not love quick and easy dishes? Count me in! I am always on the lookout for easy, fun, and of course healthy (most of the time!!) recipes which can come together in a jiffy; Easy Instant Rasmalai, Gulab Jamun with Instant Rabri, Healthy and Crunchy Date Bites etc.! Milk powder burfi or fudge is one such dish. During my last trip to the US, as mentioned in one my previous recipes Tangy Marinated Mushrooms, my husband’s cousin shared this milk powder burfi recipe along with the recipe for marinated mushrooms. The amazing part was, she told me the milk powder burfi recipe was actually one which I had shared with her decades ago!

I had completely forgotten about this easy and quick milk fudge and this last trip nudged the memories again! Apparently, this is one recipe of mine (among others) she has shared with her friends there! I had to make this again and I was blown away by the ease with which this amazing milk fudge came together. But, knowing me, I had to give it a twist! We had recently bought a large bottle of Horlicks (a malted milk hot drink) and I was wondering how to use it up soon. Horlicks burfi is a popular milk fudge available in sweet shops in southern India and it has been one of my favorite sweets to eat! My love for this divine fudge gave me the idea to substitute some of the milk powder with Horlicks powder and I was not disappointed with the result. It came out rich, soft, fudgy, creamy and oh-so-scrumptious!

The fun part is, once you have gathered your ingredients: milk, ghee, sugar, Horlicks powder and aromatics like saffron and cardamom with some nuts thrown in for texture (optional), it just takes less than 5 to 6 minutes for the burfi to come together! Actually, mine was ready in 4 minutes! Now, how fun is that? So, hop into your kitchen and make these today; you will be amazed at how fast this comes together and you will find it difficult to stop at one burfi!

Lets make this easy-peasy burfi shall we?

How to make Horlicks Milk Powder Burfi:

Butter a baking pan or tray with ghee and keep aside. In a deep saucepan, heat milk, ghee and sugar on medium low heat until sugar melts.

Cook Time: 7 minutes

¼ cup milk ¼ cup ghee ¼ cup sugar ¼ cup horlicks 1 cup milk powder Few strands saffron ½ tsp cardamom powder 1/4 cup slivered almonds

Instructions Notes Instead of almonds, you can use your favorite kind of nuts or leave them off altogether. Make sure to not to move away from the stove as this amazing burfi or fudge comes together in just 5 minutes!

Once the sugar has melted, add the rest of the ingredients: Horlicks powder, milk powder, saffron, cardamom powder and half the almonds.

Keep stirring continuously as you add; do not let go; this burfi sets in just 2 to 3 minutes! As soon as the mixture is homogeneous, forms a lump and leaves the sides of the pan, remove from pan and spread in prepared pan.

As you can see, the mixture is already becoming thick. Spread evenly onto the prepared pan with a greased spatula or with a the bottom of a bowl which is greased. Sprinkle the rest of the nuts and press into the burfi.

Set aside to cool and set completely. Cut into desired shapes with a sharp knife.

Serve these rich, soft, melt-in-your-mouth Horlicks Milk Burfi/Fudge to your friends and family this Diwali; they make perfect edible gifts for any occasion!

Enjoy!!!
