Homemade Almond Kit Kat is my effort to give one of my favorite chocolates Kit Kat, an exotic Indian flavor! My creation today is an easy homemade white chocolate Kit Kat infused with flavors of almonds, cardamom and saffron with bits of almonds in every bite! One bite and you cannot stop until you have had more! During my recent vacation to Japan, I was introduced to the exotic dishes of Japan like sushi, steamed or boiled leafy vegetables (for breakfast!), miso soup, bean cakes shaped like maple leaves, mochi ice cream etc. But the candy lover in me was fascinated by matcha green tea flavored Kit kat! My favarite chocolate candy with green tea flavors! On one of my shopping trips there, I did manage to buy one packet to share with family back home. Ever since then, my curiosity led me to discover many different flavors of Kit Kat online which are mostly available only in Japan like: Apple Kit Kat, Rum Raisin Kit Kat, Strawberry Kit Kat etc. and now the latest flavor: Kit Kat Matcha Double Berry and Almond!
Making another trip to Japan just to try these sounded crazy! The passionate and food obsessive blogger in me decided to try my own flavor. As you all know, I love my almond or badam mix powder which I love to flavor my milk with for a refreshing almond milk, enjoyed sometimes cold and sometimes hot. The brand of mix that I have has bits of almonds and is flavored with cardamom and saffron. Using this mix, I have already made my Instant Rasmalai dessert and have even tried making Almond Eggless Cookies with them! I had a few boxes of wafer cream biscuits in different flavors in my pantry which I normally keep stocked for my mother; she loves to munch on them.
So, I decided to try making Kit Kat with vanilla flavored cream wafers but using a bit of the almond mix in the white chocolate coating for an almond Kit Kat! If you have been following my blog, you already know my favorite recipe: Easy Homemade Kit Kat Bars is already posted.
In this recipe, I have given an exotic twist by flavoring white chocolate for the coating with almonds, cardamom and saffron! It is so easy, you will wonder why you need to spend so much for these candies at departmental stores! Just melt white chocolate (either in a microwave or double boiler; you can check out how I did this here), stir in almond mix powder along with a bit of unsalted butter until smooth and satiny. Dip wafer cream biscuits in them and set on parchment paper gently. Dot with slivered almonds for more almond joy!! Once completely set, remove from parchment and enjoy!!
I just followed the same recipe as regular Kit kat bars, but stirred in a bit of almond mix powder (not too much or the chocolate mixture will become too thick) in the melted chocolate along with some butter for smoothness and shine. The readymade mix has added sugar, so this candy was a bit sweeter but the taste was so scrumptious and heavenly; my husband can vouch for it! He is very careful with sweets but could not resist enjoying more pieces of this almond Kit Kat than he would have liked! You can choose to avoid the mix and just stir in some finely ground or bits of almonds with a sprinkle of freshly ground cardamom powder and a dash of crushed saffron (optional) or maybe a dot of almond essence; I am sure it will turn out as yummy! As a matter of fact, that is how I am going to make mine next time for a less sugar alternative of Almond Kit Kat bar!
According to CNN Money, Kit Kat sounds similar to “kito kato” in Japanese which means “surely win”!! This has made Kit Kat a popular good luck present in Japan for kids before their exams or tests or on special occasions! So, the next time someone needs good luck or best wishes; present them with your very own, homemade Almond flavored Kit Kat!!
Now, on to how I made my version of Almond Kit Kat Bar infused with the flavors of cardamom and saffron.
Enjoy!!!! Cook Time: 10 minutes
1 cup chopped white chocolate 1 to 2 teaspoons of badam or almond mix powder (I have used MTR brand which has almond bits in them along with cardamom and saffron; you can use any brand of your choice) 1 teaspoon unsalted butter Wafer cream biscuits, preferably vanilla flavor Slivered almonds; optional
Instructions Notes If you do not have ready made almond mix powder, just finely blend, blanched, peeled and dry almonds to a fine powder and flavor the chocolate with this along with about ¼ tsp freshly ground cardamom powder and some crushed strands of saffron. Adding cardamom and saffron is optional but gives it an exotic flavor!
