KEFIR MANGO LASSI
What is Kefir
Kefir is a cultured and fermented milk drink. It is similar in consistency to a thin yogurt. Kefir tastes tart and sour and has a little “fizz” by the carbon dioxide produced during the fermentation stage. It is loaded with probiotic health benefits. I’ve tried drinking kefir on its own and find it a bit too sour. To overcome this, I made this lassi so I could still gain the nutritional benefits of the kefir.
Ingredients
Kefir Milk – easily available in British supermarkets and Eastern Europian groceries. Mango Pulp – tinned/canned or use homemade mango pulp. You could add mango juice but it would thin out the lassi considerably. Tinned mango pulp has added sugar so you will not need any extra.
Can this be made vegan?
Absolutely! Instead of kefir milk, use a non-dairy kefir product such as coconut kefir or soy kefir. I have seen these available online.
I don’t have mango pulp
Mango Pulp is easily available in British supermarkets (usually in the world food section) but if you cannot get hold of any, you can still make this lassi. Learn how to make easy and smooth mango pulp at home just in 5 minutes. Use frozen or fresh mango chunks/pieces and blitz smooth with the kefir milk. Add either light and mild honey or sugar to sweeten if you desire.
Variations:
Add one or two threads of saffron Add a little cardamom powder Add nutmeg powder
