Just not long ago at the Diwali party, at home one of the starters was soft and fluffy KHAMAN DHOKLA, I asked mum to make some extra khaman dhokla, and next day there was DHOKLA CHAAT for our lunch and no one complained!! Although for myself and my friends ‘I am a coconut‘ when it comes to CHAAT, I am totally DESI! Although not long ago we all had enjoyed this Dhokla Chaat, right now while I am drafting this recipe, I am dreaming of having a plate of Corn Chaat, Ultimate Papadi Chaat, Sweet Potato Chaat or this quick and easy Samosa Chaat in my hand and Netflix to keep me company.
KHAMAN DHOKLA
Khaman Dhokla, A finger-licking Gujarati delicacy that hails from the western state of Gujarat, India. It is a savoury steamed cake, usually served as a breakfast or afternoon tea with piping hot Masala Chai or tantalizing chutneys or appears in a Gujarati Thali as a part of Farsan (Savoury item). The Khaman Dhokla are made with fine chickpea flour aka besan and they are gluten-free. The texture of Khaman Dhokla has to be light, fluffy, spongy and airy, the flavours are a mix of sweet, tangy and a little spicy.
What is KHAMAN DHOKLA CHAAT?
This DHOKLA CHAAT recipe is the marriage of two Gujarati household favourites. Leftover spongy Khaman Dhokla are great in this recipe when they are topped with finger-licking chutneys, Sev and other chaat favourties. Chaat is known to be intensely full of flavour and textures and this chaat recipe provides just that. The dhokla are soft and spongy and soak up the flavours of the other ingredients really well.

How to prepare the best KHAMAN DHOKLA CHAAT?
You will need khaman dhokla either fresh or leftover. Assemble the chaat by topping the dhokla with chutneys, sev, chopped red onion, fresh coriander leaves, pomegranate seeds are optional and cool sweetened yogurt. This is then served immediately.
Can I use shopbought Dhokla? Thumbs up! absolutely you can use shopbought dhokla for this chaat recipe. Can I use Dhokla ready mix to make Dhokla for this chaat? Yes, you can. It will save you some time. I don’t have Khaman Dhokla, can I use any other variety Dhokla? Although khaman dhokla works best for this chaat recipe, however, you may use sooji dhokla, moong daal dhokla or khattta dhokla. The taste may change but not drastically, you’ll still enjoy the dish. Is KHAMAN DHOKLA CHAAT Vegan? In this recipe, we have used vegan khaman dhokla, but have used normal yogurt. If you prefer this recipe totally vegan then either use vegan yogurt or skip it. So next time If I were you, I would make an extra plate of khaman dhokla!
