What is Lassi?
Lassi is a popular and traditional yogurt-based drink, originated from North India. This delicious drink is a blend of yogurt, cold water or ice, and spices. There are two types of lassi, salty and sweet, and sweet lassi most often include fruits.
About Strawberry Lassi
Lass is our family favorite drink, and it is a great accompaniment with some of our Indian meals. When I make sweet lassi, I prefer to add seasonal fruits to give a refreshing twist to this popular drink. Fruits work as a natural sweetener and add fresh fruit punch to the lassi. Strawberry Lassi is a blend of yogurt and fresh strawberries, and I have added soaked chia seeds to make it more nutritious. This lassi is great for breakfast, or instead of traditional lassi, we can also serve strawberry lassi with some Indian meals. Strawberry Lassi can be served on hot summer days for the cooling and soothing effect. Instead of store-bought sugary drinks, serve this nutrition-dense lassi to kids; they will love it!
Ingredients
How To Make Strawberry Lassi
Take chia seeds in a small bowl and add milk. Instead of milk, you can also use water or non-dairy milk like almond milk or cashew milk. Stir well and soak the chia seeds for 10 minutes.
Wash the strawberries with water and allow them to completely dry. Then hull and chop the strawberries.
Add sliced strawberries, yogurt, sugar, and ice into the blender.
Blend everything until well combined and of smooth consistency.
Serving The Strawberry and Chia Lassi
Add 1-2 tablespoon soaked chia seeds, as much you prefer, into each serving glass. Then pour the lassi and add some more soaked chia seeds on the top. Serve the chilled lassi immediately or refrigerate until the time of serving.
Garnishing Suggestions
Garnish the lassi with mint leaves and sliced strawberries. You can also top the lassi with some chopped pistachios. Add a scoop of vanilla or strawberry ice cream to enjoy the lassi as a dessert. Top the lassi with a dollop of whipped cream.
Storing The Lassi
It is best to serve the strawberry lassi immediately or chill it in the fridge for few hours before serving. If you have leftovers, you can refrigerate the lassi for up to a day.
Helpful Tips
For the flavored lassi, you can add a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. Instead of plain yogurt, you can also use vanilla or strawberry yogurt. If using sweetened vanilla or strawberry yogurt, add the sugar as needed. Because of the strawberries, the lassi will not be too thick. So for the thicker lassi, use Greek or hung yogurt. Instead of sugar, you can add honey, maple syrup, or agave for sweetness. Do not use sour yogurt to avoid too much sugar in the recipe.
